The Quality Tourism Framework (QTF) certifies tourism businesses that meet specific quality assurance criteria ensuring they are committed to exceeding consumer expectations with great customer service and the highest standards of business practice. All Quality Tourism Accredited Businesses undertake regular on-site audits to ensure compliance. A Quality Tourism Accredited Business has:

  • Licences & Permits: Ensures the business has all the required licences and permits.

  • Insurance Details: Ensures the business has all required coverage including at least $10million in public liability insurance.

  • Customer Service: Business must have documented customer service procedures, booking and cancellation policies and customer feedback processes.

  • Business Operating Systems: Ensures business has detailed and proactive operating systems ie. maintenance, health and safety, and cleaning schedules.

  • Human Resource Management: Ensures management complies with legislation relating to employing staff along with comprehensive ongoing training and skill development.

  • Risk Management: Businesses must demonstrate documentation and implementation of risk management plans, as well as emergency and evacuation procedures.

  • Economic Sustainability and Financial Systems: Ensures business complies with accounting standards, up-to-date record keeping and complies with consumer laws.

  • Environmental Management: Business must demonstrate a documented and practical commitment to sustainable environmental practices.

  • Code of Practice: Business must sign an industry code of ethics.

Strive 4 Sustainability Logo Eco Tourism

In August 2024, Extra Divers Australia completed the Ecotourism Australia "Strive for Sustainability Scorecard".

This was made possible by the Christmas Island Marine Park Grants.

We are the first business to complete this on Christmas Island.

The scorecard measured where our business is on their sustainability journey at a point in time.We were assessed against 50 criteria across the following four pillars of sustainability:

  • Sustainable Management

  • Environmental Impacts

  • Socio-economic Impacts

  • Cultural Impacts

Scoring an above average score of 85%​ we are proud of our initial assessment.

 

We achieved the following scores:

  • 88% score for maximising benefits to the environment and minimising negative impacts.

    • ​Adequate measures are in place to reuse and reduce waste created by the business. The business conservation efforts include supporting Marine Parks with ongoing research on coral reefs. Solar panels have been implemented to reduce their carbon emissions by transitioning to renewable sources of energy.

  • 89% score for demonstrating effective sustainable management.

    • ​Thorough business, marketing and operational plans are in place that ensure the smoothest operations. A well-established website and social media accounts are also available to the public and provides customers with the opportunity to understand the unique flora and fauna of Christmas Island and the business tours. 

  • 95% score for maximising social and economic benefits to the local community and minimising negative impacts.

    • ​The business prioritises employing members of the local community where possible. The business is actively involved within the local community by offering sponsorships to the local school, offering local discounts and being involved with CITA and CIBA organisations.

  • 67%  score for maximising benefits to cultural heritage and minimising negative impacts.

    • ​The business is clearly aware of the cultural diversity on the Island. Staff and Management are aware of the cultural diversity on the island and are trained in international cross-cultural understanding
